Dementia has been named UK leading cause of death for the second year in a row according to Dementia UK.
51 year old, massive Wolves supporter, Manny Kang is incredibly passionate about raising awareness of dementia and fundraising to help those suffering with it or supporting families that are affected by it.
Born in Wolverhampton in 1973, Manny grew up locally. His father had arrived from India in 1960 as a 12-year-old boy and married Manny’s mother in 1970.
Manny grew up in a tough financial environment but learnt early in life that everyone has the ability to give something meaningful back to society regardless of their circumstances.
When asked why Dementia UK meant so much to him, he said he had “Simply researched it thoroughly” and it had really stuck with him so he decided to dig deeper. He said, “You don’t always have to be effected personally by something to feel a passion to help”.
Over recent years, passion to help has grown stronger and he’s raised a whopping amount of money for Dementia UK. Recently he has completed a 48 hour walk around the Molineux Stadium which he described as his toughest challenge yet, even more so than running the London marathon.
Manny has also walked 195 miles from the Molineux stadium to Newcastle which took a great amount of self belief and courage. All the amazing effort took him 4 days and 8 hours. He received an amazing reception from a crowd of around 52,000. Manny believes that the amazing people he meets on his journey inspire him to keep going.
As well as walking, Manny also heads up ‘Samosa Saturday’ whereby family and local business serve up thousands of samosas and hand them out in Wolverhampton with the suggestion of a donation if able. The last event was held on the 2nd November and £6884.40 was raised and split between The Wolves Foundation and Dementia UK.
Manny has also recently been awarded “Fundraiser of the year” at the Pride of Britain award.
He says he plans to continue raising money for this very worthwhile cause and watch this space for his next fund raising event.
